So, I've been busy.

I'm sure you hear that a lot. No rest for the weary and all that, right? I feel bad because I felt like I had a lot more free time but this week has been relentlessly flagging me down with work at, uh, work and getting items ready for the wedding.

So about that party? Yeah, it was nicer than I expected.

Under the pretense of "getting her hair done" to see how it would look for the wedding, me and her parents began to unload several folding chairs, tables, and a giant bottomless tent that was at least a decade old because its poles had a 20% chance of having bungee in its veins to keep everything locked together. Do you know what a tent that has its support system degrade that badly does when you connect it? It succumbs to gravity and goes from a whole arch to a pile of sticks. Repeatedly.

So as I reenacted my best Buster Keaton in vain attempts to keep the skeleton intact, we tried to get 50 pounds of canopy draped on it. The canopy is honestly what keeps everything together thankfully and some tightened cloth got us a usable frame.

Its mosquito netting was pocked with breaches. I even contributed one when the skeleton started to fragment at a look point and I pushed it into a tighter position (I ended up hitting Michelle's mom with the other end of the frame as a result). The tent now enjoys a tiny speed hole courtesy of that incident. Sigh.

Decor was added, the netting was tucked away, Don was sweated profusely on a mid-90 day, and lipstick was liberally applied to the pig. You'd think it actually looked presentable by the end of it!

Michelle was surprised, albeit with suspicions and a full bladder--their travels had them going through Target just to waste time while she was holding it in--and festivities were had. I can't tell you much about it because I kept my distance and it was her party as well.

My mom was able to come by and she was concerned as always about Michelle's weight as well as her family's. I think she still worries about what genetic lottery I'm inheriting. We spoke for a bit afterwards outside of the party about work, about money, and I received more reminders of my relatives who seem more successful. I think she wants me to do more with grand success but conceded I wanted to just be stable.

She also passed me an envelope. $1,500. For the drinks, which was what I told her I was going to budget for alcohol. I know my parents' situation is not good (I think that's the main reason why they always talk about money) and I told her I'm giving it back for Christmas. She gave me that "we'll see" smile and she left while dropping off a bag of canned kimchi and some of that buldak ramen that you eat if you want to be a youtube star.

I think her parents realized her discomfort with coming because they kept saying that she hopes she enjoys being around the family. I politely comply with white lies and keep the mood of the party light; it's not their sin to bear, especially not on this day.

The party goes until 3am. I'm already indoors by 11pm because I hate mosquitoes and the heat is relentless.

Everyone had fun, and to be honest we didn't even eat that much, or maybe the heat was so bad that we burned it off. More importantly, I saw why her parents wanted to have this party: because her family is goddamn generous.

We received a few alcoholic beverages and almost $1600 in gifts. More than enough to fund the extra furnishings for the wedding. I'm already plotting for this weekend to get a bunch of things to get done since we have the money. One important item that we kept getting reminded of was syrup, but I felt it was too expensive to get. With this in our "war funds," it's much more feasible.

With the money so far, I've already ordered 9 cases of mason jars. 90 dollars.

Still pretty damn cheap, given that it was shipped (free shipping!). If I keep putting financial trajectories towards not spending too much, I think we can still save some of this money for other things.

I ordered a Sony speaker for the karaoke machine (this was with my own money, though).

My new mission now is to listen to music to find the playlist to make for the event.

Bandcamp is going to be my new time sink for awhile. I want to find something different because I haven't honestly listened to anything new I like for a few years in my hidden workloads.

Music
Holy shit, Crying is amazing. I know they haven't put anything new out in two years, but I've put them on loop in honor of how good it is. It's like if someone made a band based on anime theme songs and I mean that in a great way. I'm tempted to use one song for the wedding playlist, but they've seen regular rotation in my app as a result in general.

I found a band from Portugal that I just want to keep in my rotation because it sounds like something I'd listen to normally. This quest has so far been full of benefits.

Another post to come, just been really busy.
