It's Michelle's birthday.
We spent the weekend going to NJ. Her friends went to a zoo; a small one was a little too close to the old school zoos to make me feel comfortable about it.
On Friday we stayed at a hotel after an early trip to the second job. I realized I dressed as I normally do for Fridays (read: super casual), so I asked if I should have gotten better outfits to wear since it was her friends and her birthday. Michelle I think wanted to do this because she went to Kohls while I was cleaning toilets and returned with two bags of outfits. We got an unexpected upgrade and it was Marriott, which introduced a new way to access the hotels using just their app. That was neat. So was sleeping in early. I checked all her outfits and she thought they worked with me, but she was mostly happy because all of it was clearance so super cheap, barring one pair of dress pants.
Trip to a diner in the morning where we met Michelle's friends. This lunch meet felt more like a meeting with kids. It was a typical NJ diner, which is a good thing, imo. One of them didn't bring their husband because they got in a fight. Again. The other brought two kids one of whom resembled Tommy Pickles and the other oldest son kept jumping on a booth seat and telling people "it's the crabby place" ("crappy"). It was everything I expected that was annoying about bringing your kids to your friends' gatherings.
After this and the zoo (which we had enjoy time to visit for an hour and a half), I found it funny because a fair number of the animals there were also commonly seen in our neck of the woods.
The return trip was me trying to spoil her more, so hit the H-Mart and found some good deals on meat. Then we went to a dim sum place and ordered more food than we could handle. We made it back around 8pm and let her play with the first gift I got her: the Let's Go Pikachu game with the pokeball option. Michelle kept remarking on how she was enjoying it, but I also kept hearing about how she was planning on buying an Apple Watch.
Early morning, I dropped off her second gift: she didn't even think of getting the latest watch but one before. I told her beforehand that it would be best to get home earlier than usual and we faced the wrath of a relentless rainstorm to make it work. So until 5pm when I have to go to the second job and face the regular work day like everyone else does, we're just going to goof off for most of today.
I spent more than I expected this weekend, but I'll try to accommodate for it while making sure we get out in the black.
The biggest annoyance of this though seems to be annual fees for my web services. I always try to plan ahead for the damn things, but they always come when I least expect it. So goddamned obnoxious.
Anyway, off to enjoy my time off. ...for a few hours.

And agreed that kids change the social dynamics for the worse. I'm happy that most of my friends are childless at this point. I respect that Social Security is basically a Ponzi scheme and if people don't keep having babies I won't get a pension, but do they really need to do it so near to me?
