An interesting counterpoint on the potential abuse of polyamory.
No, this doesn't downplay the movement itself, it's a reminder that as we become more tolerant of new things, we also most be aware of the dangers that can be brought from them as a result. Personally, the descriptions feel akin to one too many people who abuse the cult of personality persona.
Looking him up explains the use of rabbit ears by one of the previous polyamorous people I followed on LJ, I'll give it that, too.
So for Valentine's Day, I gave a card. It's a cute little pop-up thing, which is all the rage these days (and I'm glad it is because I'm a sucker for pop-up anything). I made the order, received shipping confirmation, and Michelle got the card.
That was why, when that gesture of affection passed through the mail, I received a message from her that, in all her eagerness, read:
"I think Lovepop just sent me a free card!"
You see, when I ordered that card, they didn't allow me to mark it down as a gift. I went through the order process trying to find a way to insert something to say, and before I knew it, I purchased a card.
The other thing that threw this whole experience off: I guess because it wasn't marked as a gift, it came in on Monday.
Happy pre-pre-pre-Valentine's Day?
By the way, today Michelle asked if there was a game I wanted for my Switch. I told her I'm still good (I finished the main quest in Pokemon and am just trying to build up new teams as I farm candies at this point anyway). I'm not a big gift guy for the V-Ds anyway, you know? Apparently, people celebrate it less, but spend more if they do it. I'm okay with not fulfilling that by just keeping it to a cute card, especially when it matches the pop-up cat I got her last year (that came in a day after VD).
Cooking
For the office's chocolate fest, I made a caponata. Two days ago I was roasting eggplants (note to self: don't do that again, just stir fry the damn things), peeled their skins off, chopped them, and then fried minced onions that were not minced enough, added half a can of crushed tomatoes, evaporated it into the mixture, added the rest of the can, and then let the tomatoes absorb until I added a mixture of chocolate, vinegar, sugar, raisins, and capers into it and then pulsed it into a food processor to make it more bite-size. I added some of the diced eggplant along with chiffoned basil and pine nuts. Michelle said it was good. I still debate how much chocolate was actually used in it, but I wanted to make something that wasn't all sweetness, so...
Yesterday was me baking a baguette's worth of oil-brushed slices to make crostini and giving myself a first degree burn.
It's okay, it's just a first degree burn. Second is when it gets annoying.
By the way, Michelle wants to go back to that dim sum parlor in Albany. I told her if we have an excuse to go back, then we can give it a shot since it's actually quicker to reach than Boston anyway. I realized that Albany has a few dumpling places, so I figured I might as well see if they have a decent asian market setup there.
I found a few, including one that has 800 reviews, which tells me it's a decent one.
So I told Michelle the next time we do a run for supplies, this is almost the same distance but is 30 miles less, meaning less stress on the car and give us an excuse to explore some more. Albany compared to Boston is blah, but driving through Boston is a PITA anyway, this might be worth exploring on our end anyway.
Gaming
The alignment of game day with VD just tells me I'm probably going to deal with a lot of bitterness to women tonight. Sigh. At least I got my notes prepped up, so I'm ready.
Not much more to say worth saying (I really just wanted to share the card story). Hope you folks are holding up OK.

Date: 2019-02-15 09:47 pm (UTC)Michelle was also responsible for running it and I'm also happy to say that there's no leftovers on our end (outside of the caponata), which is fine by me!

Date: 2019-02-15 09:52 pm (UTC)I wouldn't sweat it about VD, to be honest. I hated it during my incel days, but even now I'm very milquetoast about the ceremonies.
I do, on the other hand, look forward to trying to find some chocolates on the cheap this weekend if any are left just to fill the office stocks.
So yeah, I get your attitude about the holidays. Hell, I wouldn't even put a lot of weight onto my birthday nor Christmas if Michelle's parents didn't treat it like the ultimate taboo to miss these things.

Date: 2019-02-15 09:53 pm (UTC)I explained it to her and she was amused. She didn't believe me at first though and had to show my order confirmation email just to prove it. It's a cute card all the same though and the valentine's cat from last year matches well with it.
