Okay, job's tomorrow and I'm very eh about it, but also very glad. Some solid routine should keep me going properly now. To celebrate, I will go see a movie as soon as this chimney inspector comes by since the weather's too cloudy to be worth shooting. Speaking of which...

Cinema
Welcome to Woop Woop. Never heard of it? Believe me, I don't know anyone that really has either. It's a very quirky film with a legacy of being made by the same fellow who directed "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert". Never heard of it? Don't worry, I didn't hear of it either. Let me just warn you with this: IT IS VERY, VERY WEIRD.

The story centers around a Mister Bojangles (I am not kidding, I really am not) who is an illegal bird smuggler running away from his life in New York to wander through Australia. He meets upon a woman in his travels who immediately falls for him, dips his wick fifty times a night and, upon admitting his love to her in no serious manner, PUNCHES HIM IN THE FACE, and "marries" him to an Australian commune where you have a touch of "Animal Farm", "Deliverance", and "Hotel California". Wow.

One thing that stands out in particular: the movie uses a soundtrack of various pop artists... doing Rodgers & Hammerstein covers. It's strange, quirky, and addictive in ways that I could not expect. I guess this shows how timeless their work really is. Admittedly, this is one of my favorite things about the film and I've been trying to find a soundtrack for this film as a result.

I'm also told, stranger still, that there's some truth in the manners of daily life that this movie plays. Granted, it's caricatured to extremes. Even so, the idea that some of the things they poke fun at, from the daily diet of cheap beer to the addiction to Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals on the television are played to this level made me scratch my head in wonder.

It's not a bad movie. It really is so weird and quirky that it's on a whole level all to itself. I can't really hate the movie since it is entertaining as a result, although it is so strange that it does make me feel dirty. Very, very dirty.

I think the strangest thing about this film has to be knowing that this film is based on a novel. I think I have to read this book just to see how much of it is similar.

Oh, and those curious about this film:

Writing
Just wanted to add this: Stephen King has remarked on both J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer, respectively authors of the infamous Harry Potter and Twilight series.

He stated in a general remark that he thinks J.K. Rowling is not just a popular author, but a fantastic writer who is really worthy of her praise and has the potential to just get better and better with each book. Stephanie Meyer? Not that much.
