Ah, they finally explained what happened to the spanish dancer in "Carnivale." Hopefully the rest will make some mention somewhere. It wouldn't have surprised me if Hawkins was one step short of getting something out of "Deliverance" in last week's episode, but I guess they felt it was too stereotypical?

I'm glad they finally resolved Sophie's issue. Does this mean the mother was partially so disruptive of her because of her hatred at being directed for having the power? Likewise, the mask thing... the fat guy was too creepy to begin with, living in something too sweet and homey. I love how the scenery is done. It's so suggestive of something evil but it doesn't have to express anything grotesque; psychological imagery like that is what really shows a mature style in cinematography (as if the rest of the camera work wasn't amazing to begin with anyway, case in point: the burning clothes scene. To quote Guinness, "Brilliant!"). I know I'd never get into directing, but I also know if I ever did, I would use this among the list of other movies for a lot of suggestive work on how to get it done right.
