I guess I better start off with what I thought was going to happen.
I thought that Sophie (originally thought of as a progeny of Scudder) was going to get raped by Brother Justin. The two generations combine and after they die she becomes the mother of a god: two poles of good and evil in one body.
After awhile I also considered that Iris becomes inseminated by Hawkins and the two women give birth to the next good/evil balance.
So, heh... guess I was completely off, eh? At least I got her purpose a bit (though I misinterpreted her role as Omega).
Ending was interesting but kind of raises questions. He could have killed Justin if he had a chance to get dead bodies. Okay, kind of puts a bit of questionable purpose, but the utility of it would have been more efficient, especially when we consider how much higher the ratio of trade is.
Sophie is... the prince(ss) of good? I honestly thought her powers would only erupt once there was someone opposing her side. Guess I was wrong (plus Alexi had his powers back when he was 5 which was way before Hawkins even was born. Blah, another wasted theory). Still, if she's the omega, then why did she heal him? The idea of good/evil just becomes more and more wavery the more I think about it since it may also mean that she is keeping him alive possibly for the sake of the boon. Still, how will the masses explain Justin's killing spree?
I guess Iris' killing the kids also no longer seems to take its purpose as Justin's catalyst into corruption due to Sophie's origins. Still, this makes me also wonder if Hawkins really is the evil since he is the one with life over death, but all the same it also "takes" from his polar opposite.
If season 3 does come around (a lot of hints that it's going to happen), then there's some things I have to say:
-I'm going to miss Father Bascus. He was a wimp, but he was such a pure and lovable wimp. Even in the end with his cheesy Exorcist-esque ending, I still thought it was woefully appropriate for a destined pariah. I'll trade you for Adrian Barbeau anyday (even if she does get priority in the credits)!
-Llod(sp?) still needs to have his presence made. As well as a possible explanation as to why he is the only other member of the Carnivale with uncanny powers.
-"Every prophet in their house." Figurative(body) or literal(New Canaan)? Also, it's a member of the freemasons that says it. A suggestion for a future return of previous characters while a new apostle/priestess/wife has ascended? Also, possible power struggle or cooperation of two polarities, only difference being one as a schemer and another as a direct force?
-Stumpy (aka Felix) still have bills to pay and I don't think they'll will cover it if I remember right.
-If it comes down to those two against each other again, then I can see a lot of problems for ol' Ben, what with him missing that knife.
-Is Hawkins going to officially be Management? If so, then can you imagine the moral issues Samson will have with him? More things to snicker at.
All-in-all, very enjoyable ending with promise for new things that may suggest a new season that will not get dull and hackneyed.
