I spent last night watching "The Princess Bride" and "Akira" on DVD. This involved a 30 minute preliminary where I had to reinstall my DVD player, but I did not mind too much since it was worth it.

The edited-for-tv version of Akira was seriously cut down. In the full version, I actually got to see a more complex side of Kaneda and his relationship with Tetsuo throughout the story, as well as how he picked up a few other things. I really say Kaneda as someone that cared deeply for his friends and was arrogant and INCREDIBLY lucky, but still someone who always cared for his buddies. Some of the scenes were really really graphic, so I can understand why they weren't used, though to tell the truth, I think it was this violent just to show the dark side of mankind and the powers they wield.

Now that I saw "The Princess Bride" again, I can't help but realize that there was so few famous actors in it. There were some real cult icons though, but the only one in that movie that really still is a name in movies is Billy Crystal, who played a side character that didn't even look like him. Maybe he knew the cast was bound to be typecast from this movie onward? Either way, I was entertained.

I wanted to see "Pi" but I bought it for my brother and he still hasn't watched it yet. A shame since I love that movie: for an independent film it really has a polished look to it and the camera work for it is pretty good.
