Everyone I know seems to be in a band. It's like some sort of connection I share, maybe it's a New Jersey thing. Personally this makes me wonder if I should have been in a band since everyone I know and still talk to is musically inclined in some way or another.

Other writers I never really talk with except in snippets, and other photographers are kind of like sideways friends: we know each other and laugh at good things, but we don't hang out actively with each other. Painters and the like I tend to feel distant around. It's the musicians that I actually have been closest friends with from back in the day.

The truth is though that the most I've thought about music is when I'm brainstorming some musical idea or another, and even this is a halfassed piece of work. I don't know why it works that way though.

When I was a kid, I was forced to take piano lessons. I thought they were lame. In fact, I still abhor using the piano since it seems so colloquial. Yes, I acknowledge that men like Ben Folds no longer emasculate the piano and make it cool to play, but you still couldn't pay me enough to make me want it. Personally, I always wanted to beat on drums or bagpipes. It may have to do with their origin as instruments(hee hee) of war and I could feel it really riling me up as I heard it.

But that never happened, so here I am. Oh, and I was never a big fan of singing either: my super low voice just made me feel dumb and I never liked singing hymns for the church. I will still sing a bit, but only when I am tired and I need to push myself a little more to get something done.

Anyway, with regards to music: I will be spending most of next week checking out concerts. This weekend: camping! In one of the most luxurious cabins ever!

And now I go back to work.
