I thought of placing the explanation into a chapter, but it felt inappropriate. To be honest, the interesting thing about Mandrashard's relationship with the characters is... well, I shouldn't say. Either way, I'll just have this as a stinger for the end of the first part of this piece.

Edit - I just realized that I should eventually think of titles for these sections too. Blah, these things make me feel so corny.

Mandrashard was a blade forged before the War of the Shadows, long before the art of casting spells became an art only the most gifted could accomplish. This was during the greater ages of magic, when one’s abilities to imbue spells into weapons without the weapon having to feed off the person through a link, or through becoming the very tool itself. Most of the weapons of those day were lost as time ravaged them, as their powers failed them during the great climax that sealed the world of most of its powers.
Mandrashard’s creator was never known. It was only known to have been in the hands of the righteous and the wrong. Legends were created around those that have used it, those that have had the chance to place their hands upon it have been able to forge kingdoms from it. Geral Ironfist, Vallas Hethran, Bath of the Bleeding Blade; all of them known for conquering their own kingdoms through their own legacies made from gaining this deadly weapon.
The thing that made such a weapon so strange, however, came from the use of Mandrashard. It was a weapon forged in the appearance fit for kings, but it was said to have been no different from a normal blade most of the time. Journals of those few that had tested the weapon refused to penetrate metal or stone or even emanate an aura. To those that had a chance to encounter Mandrashard had made one think that the legacy of Mandrashard had been nothing more than a myth; a story told from the succession of heroes that placed their victories behind weapons that may as well have been ornamental weapons in their hands would have forged their own history of fame and fortune.
But it was impossible. Only a select few ever knew of Mandrashard; only those that knew those that were in the company of these legacies ever found out about the secrets of such an ordinary weapon. Even now, the only ones who would know about Mandrashard are those who have had the chance to hear what little stories they were; the few that sought it heard stories only the most erudite of bards could hear of. This, of course, was what made it all the more sought after by those that heard of it; the power of an artifact of the past, forgotten and waiting for a new person to gain its power.
