Why? Because I can't harbour sympathy for 9/11. If anything, I feel depressed at them. They remind me that people still want to talk about the dead so they can have an excuse to mourn. They sell paraphinelia about an incident that led to the death of thousands of people: it's almost like having people sell concentration camp jigsaw puzzles: it's just not right.

If anything, I feel like slapping these people in the head. Most of the ones that seem the harbour the most sympathy about this are the ones that I question the most. Don't get me wrong... some of these people who actually have lost people have their right to mourn. If I found out my boss was dead then I'd probably be despondent as well. They have no right to do this though. Patriotism be damned, sometimes I wonder if they're just patriotic because they're afraid.

I'm not going to make this into a big convo though. I'll say that I did make several entries about why I disagree about this worldwide mourning and what is wrong with the US at times. Sorry if this offends you, Mellie Mel and Kelli and anyone else that sees this (especially Hammy-chan, my adorable lil' icon of coolness), but it pisses me off.

I think the biggest pisser was one "patriot" who was also a complete racist bigot. That's right, she selflessly hated anyone not white. I shake my head at this irony and this nation called the United States of America... in this world where I have to be a bigot just to play devil's advocate. Don't worry, after a good night sleep I'll just become a regular bigot like I usually am, but right now... I'm the bigot of reason. ...and I probably should sleep :P

I agree in parts, especially about the marketing of disasters, much like what they're still doing over Princess Dianna, but I know people who feel very deeply about the situation who just feel for the families. I, myself, know what it feels like to lose someone you love, and so I sympathize with the people who lost loved ones in the disaster. Then there's situations like with my mom and dad who are both native new yorkers, and this is where they grew up, and their entire families are there and so it hit them hard initially, and they still feel very strongly about it. I think if I saw some major landmark of california blown up I'd feel the same way though. I also think it's important to remember just because it reminds us that we're not the big invincible country we'd like everyone to believe we are. It's a grim reminder that we're just as vulnerable as anyone else, and it's changed a lot of security issues for the country, which may or may not be a good thing. I guess eventually we'll find out. Aside from that, I have to give my proper respects to those who died, as some of those died in an effort to preserve our way of life. A lot of people argue that our way of life isn't the best, but if it had succeeded and destroyed our government the entire nation would've been in a state of panic, and would be a lot worse off right now than it is. So..I guess my point is that I respect the people and their families, but I'm trying to not get drawn into the marketing of it all, and I'm trying to not let the stupidity of those who try to make money off of this lessen the importance, historical and otherwise, of the situation. And yeah, I did know a few people who died, though they weren't what I'd call friends, and no worries, I didn't find anything in your entry offensive. :)
