Today’s one of those days that gripe me the most: windy and brisk and partly cloudy. This is the sort of weather that’s perfect for me to go out and have fun in, which makes me loathe being at work today. I’d rather be outside right now along the marshlands wandering for shots.

Photography
I took a few shots of the moon using the new teleconverter and the results are very dull. I so far can’t totally complain; there’s contrast in the image, but the sharpness is laughable. On the other hand, this is a lens best used at 1/750-1000 due to the nature of the lens being so damn long, so I’ll have to play with it some more. In all honesty, with respect to the moonshots, it makes me feel like it’s a little softer than what I’d get from the Tamron Adaptall converter, but my main gripe is seeing if this teleconverter holds up against daylight objects in motion, which was one of my biggest problems with the Adaptall version that had horridly reduced contrast. I still have 14 more days to decide before taking it or tossing it, so this will have to be something to test this weekend before considering replacing this with a 1.4x.

I think I need better photos in general. The ones I have lack overall sharpness. For dark shots it’s excusable since dark shots are difficult to get to begin with, especially spontaneous ones, but the rest? At 100% they fuzz out quite a bit. I’ll have to work harder, especially with the nature shots. If I return the teleconverter, then maybe I should invest instead in a Katzeye to improve my manual focus control, or at least rework my shooting philosophy. I like to keep my lenses on wide shot, and I’ve been finding that some of my neglected glass works better when stopped down two or three times. I’ll try the six pounder with an f8 tonight if I can catch the moon and this time brought a monopod. Hopefully that will show if I can get better results.

But hey, at least my composition is getting better.

I haven't been able to keep up with everything since going on a public terminal, but I have noticed your photos and really love the snowbud ones and these. They're so beautiful. When I get my hands on some cash, I might have to ask you for a print.

Aw shucks, well thanks! I really do appreciate it. I'm not sure it it'll look good in a print, but I'll see what I can do to fulfill it.

If any of the stuff does look like something you'd like to use to sketch or the like, by the way, please don't hesitate to do so! You've got talent with those brushes that I can't do (not without having coffee hands wiggle the hell out of the image at least).

I'll have to see about getting you a shot of one of those destitute types someday. I wish this camera wasn't so damn loud.
