Hanging out for Pollen, originally uploaded by zesty-pinto.

Everyone’s looking forward to this week. I know why, you know why, George Washington knows why, and Z knows Y. HA HA! Yes, I’m in one of those moods.

I contribute it to this weekend being relatively good to me. Yes, the weather was overbearing and sweltering, but I made the best of it by testing out the new Sigma lens in action. As you can see, it can get some really sharp shots. It still suffers a bit here and there, but I’d blame that on the human factor of the lens since I have coffee hands.

My biggest hope was actually getting a butterfly in mid-flight, but that’s short of impossible with my current skill in focus control and aim. In time, perhaps, but for now? HA! If there’s anything this has taught me especially, it’s that I need new lenses for my eyes. My ability to discern minutiae that makes a shot sharp or not is poor. The only thing that helped me find that magic spot was the lens itself giving me warnings when it found a nice sharp point in my focus. This Pentax is so sweet!

Movies
I said I was going to see “Brick Lane” or “My Winnipeg,” right? Well I tried. I tried and failed. I got lost trying to find the street as I ended up trying to get the hell out of SoHo, which was cramped with people. I went to the other theater and saw I missed the show by half an hour and would wait 90 minutes for the next, not to mention that all the other freaky films were showing much later in the day. I gave up and decided to see “Wall-E” instead.

“Wall-E” is probably the best movie I’ve seen this summer and all year, right next to “The Fall.” It’s got robots for the guy in me, and a very touching romance for the dumb romantic in me. It’s amazing how much this movie managed to do things I never expected, ranging from making robots react like humans to making roaches look cute. Even the credits have a beautiful rendition where progress is shown in the form of evolving art forms. There isn’t anything about it I can hate the movie for, even the overdone post-apocalypse angle that everyone’s doing this year. Although I already established this after I saw “Ratatouille,” Pixar is bulletproof from any negative opinion as far as I’m concerned.

Non-sequitor
[livejournal.com profile] yourfaceboingomight want to look away, as this is old news.

During the movie previews for “Wall-E”, they were showing cartoon previews for kids. One of them was for Flap Jack, one of the latest ventures Cartoon Network made. After the preview, an elderly woman told her husband, “Is it me, or are cartoons these days just badly drawn and make no sense?”

Some people never understand stylized art forms. Then again, some people never understand abstract art, either. I wrote a huge rant on it, but you don’t want to read me rant on this sort of thing, so just know that I showed restraint and chose to sort through my Pentax to see what shots were usable and what weren’t.

Fun Fact
No one likes to go see movies on Monday nights, so it’s the best time to catch a popular film with very small crowds. I think “Wall-E” deserves a second round, unless I can make “The Promotion” at the Angelika (more walking).

Also, my work shoes have officially worn through my soles. There is a hole in the bottom of my shoe and it’s a decent-sized orifice.

I forgot to reply, but thanks! Still got a long way to go before I can do some real shots with this, though, admittedly. :P
