Continuing my Romp to the Indy Theaters
Jun. 2nd, 2008 03:50 pmPaycheck is taking time, not unlike the Ben Affleck movie of the same name in that I want it here so I can finish up and get it over with.
This weekend saw the Foot Fist Way. The preview was funny. This? Not so funny. It had its moments, but it was like watching a 90 minute episode of something from Adult Swim: definitely hits or misses a lot.
This week’s going to be mostly indy films. Not Indiana Jones, which did not impress me.
Tonight – The Fall: a film about a fantasy story told by a disabled stuntman who uses his storytelling to convince a little girl to let him commit suicide. The use of imagery and colors in the previews was so stylized that it was art in motion.
For future watching this week:
Mongol – I can dig the epic look this movie brings. Besides, it seems oddly appropo since a month ago since Iron Man involved a monologue on how the bow and arrow helped the Mongols conquer an empire greater than the Romans ever could accomplish.
The Promotion – Dramady about two submanagers trying to win the chance to open a newer better store? Sounds domestic enough to be crazy! I’m in.
When Did You Last See Your Father? – Drama about meeting your father for the last time before he dies and finding regret in so many things you took advantage of. The preview looked nostalgic and beautiful, and I honestly felt my tear ducts dampen from watching it and thinking of my own relationship with my parents. If there is anyone on my flist I would recommend checking this out, it’s definitely
morganaus.
And somewhere next week, I’ll get into Don’t Mess With The Zohan, which I don’t understand the big deal is about: yeah, it’s discriminatory, but nobody gave a shit about the concept when Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan did it three times in a row with Rush Hour! And what’s he doing anyway? Ripping off Herbal Essences commercials? Please. What may be the most amazing this of this movie is that it’s a comedy where Adam Sandler’s actually not playing an immature manchild for once. For once! This movie may be the most amazing thing out there because of that fact.
Review!
Also played the Penny Arcade Adventures game. I was not too impressed at the humor, but it was decently balanced in terms of gameplay and had some interesting mechanics (an interactive defense mechanism was a nice touch) despite my inability to really appreciate the humor. I was never a PA fan though, so there you go, still unconverted, but will look forward to the sequel (even if I spent 20 bucks to finish a game in a day).
Finally
I missed out on some movie called Machine Girl. It looked so ridiculous, that it was reminiscent of cheesy Asian classic Riki-Oh. It was pure over-the-top, stupid gore, where at one point the hero fights with an arm battered in tempura. I am not kidding, it is really that ridiculously awesome.
