Why the hell did you show me something that I have to spread like SARS?

I only hear about fanfiction like this the same way children are told about the bogeymen. Why must they acknowledge that this stuff really exists?

That's pretty poor compared to some of the crazy fanfic I've read. I HATE fanfic, but I have a few friends who're crazy for it. That led me to inspect some samples......some were well written and inventive but completely bizarre.

Was it this bad? I mean, what the hell is this? Smurf-Gargamel love? WTF?

A friend of mine wrote B5 Sinclair/Garibaldi love scenes. The other one I wandered on started with Dortothy from the Wizard of Oz getting oral sex from Toto and followed with an munchkin/Dorothy orgy in Munchkinland.

Your friends are douchebags for giving me head trauma, especially the Toto/Dorothy writer.

The Toto/Dorothy writer was NOT a friend of mine.

I'd de-friend any bastard that did that too.

That's not what I was saying. I didn't know the person at all. I was searching for a funny wav I used to have that had a Wizard of Oz theme, and my choice of search terms brought up that particular piece of fan fiction. Personally, I thought it was very funny (despite my dislike of fanfiction writers) and wouldn't have unfriended someone for it.

My negative attitude towards fanfic concerns the way fanfiction writers co-opt another writer's characters or entire universe in ways that are contrary to the creator's intentions and wishes. We should respect the writer and not co-opt their characters to use as we wish to satisfy our unfulfilled desires for a particular character or set of characters. Fanfiction is offensive to me as a writer.

I think my existing fanfiction-writing friends know of my disdain for the activity. If they have such creativity or desires to write, why not create their own characters??

I love how you always give these assumptions whenever I make a remark out of silliness rather than serious remark. Sometimes I wonder if you like to play the game of showing you can get the last word in edgewise.

This is the part where I expect you to give a defensive explanation for that too.

The silly ribaldry aside, I think the feeling is very mutual.

You can take my explanations as defensive if you like, but the intent is to clarify for what appears to be a literal or confused response to something I've said. I suspect if I knew you in person, it would be less difficult to tell when you're joking. Your tone is much the same at all times, and you don't really do much to aid in the communication process making it all guesswork from my end.

I've been pondering this for awhile. Your comments often seem as if you're either taking me too literally, you're reading too much into what I'm saying, or you're fucking with me constantly. I haven't been able to decide which. Since the tone of your responses is similar regardless of whether I am serious or joking, I feel like I have to explain everything.

So basically, it's not really a matter of the last word but in feeling a constant sense that you need clarification or you're pulling my chain. I don't like the idea that you're constantly pulling my chain since that would make you a prick (given that your responses are much the same whether I've made a serious or humorous post). If you're being silly much of the time, it often misses the mark. What's the humor in perpetually appearing to misunderstand me?

I guess it doesn't help that I do mingle sarcasm and false expression in half the remarks I have with you. I can't believe that my tone is remarked as one and the same, however, as I can tell when my writing's either elated with something strange or I'm just drawn to being straight. Perhaps I am just one of those mysterious types that are difficult to understand, which is perfectly fine with me since I like being a touch enigmatic.

What's the humor in perpetually appearing to misunderstand me?

I dunno, what's the humor in sarcasm? ;)

At least, I punctuate my sarcasm with :P so people have a clue.

I'm perusing the SomethingAwful boards. There's some hilarious stuff there (those Youtube links I've been posting have been SA-related), but apparently I found one of them digging into the deepest buttcracks of the internet.
