Good Bye Flu, Hello Cold
Feb. 17th, 2020 04:33 pmMy muscle weakness happened during the weekend. I'm now dealing with a wicked ragged throat. Huzzah.
On the bright side, I did some voice work on Friday night despite that. First run was a solid take right through from beginning to end. Second time around involved two reads as I realized what an old man I turned into as I tried to figure out how the hell to use Google Docs just to access shared materials.
Not a lot of travel this weekend. My body has been odd with hunger, mostly because of nausea. Monday is fine; outside of the coughing, I'm good!
I guess it must have helped to some degree as well since Thursday's session really came off as enjoyable to my players. Some of them are trying new things and I've been trying to act out new chars. Someone compared me to Crit role and I have no idea how to gauge it because I'm out of touch with the youth. So it's been dialogues discerning something from a character's background that she consented to let me roll with into something bigger, a character who is basically a prophet for a starting demigod who lived his mortal life as basically Zaphod Beeblebrox, and another character whose warlock roots he still has no idea about but I've been building off of in hints.
I still need to work on adding to the background world but I've been so tired. Sigh. I'll remind myself to do such once I get home.
So during downtime, we spent part of the weekend watching "The Last OG," which is a TBS show but honestly feels like it was written for BET. The writing is not great, but it has its moments, the season finale was resolved decently, and season 2 is much stronger so far in general.
I then checked and found out Mr. Show is on Hulu. You know what's so funky about Mr. Show? It aged much better than you'd expect for a comedy skit show. It uses "transsexual" in the late 90's. Imagine that: being so ahead of the game that you are using a term popularized two decades later.
Aside from that, some of it lacks the edge that we see today, but the rest is goddamn hilarious. I was also reminded that Bob Odenkirk, aka Spongebob, is one of the original cast members so that adds another odd dimension to this.
Okay, coughing up a lung. Calling it quits for now.
