So I've had this story in my head for a few months now about a future where people are literally forced to work to the point where they're literally walking corpses with a working brainstem. The metaphor is blatantly obvious: I've had lousy jobs in my life for many years and I am aware of how significant they place me in the grand cosmic scheme that we call our society and it just reflects how I probably will see myself until they're covering my cold meat with dirt in a hole in the ground because reality sucks and I don't see it changing anytime soon at the rate things are going.

Here's the funny thing: I kept forgetting to write it.

Like it wasn't because I was tired, it wasn't because I was goofing off either--hell, I spent most of my time off doing chores! No, I didn't do it because my mind shut it out. I remembered I wanted to write something with my free time, but I couldn't remember what I wanted to write about.

In a way, this is a reminder of why people need to find more hobbies, as it really distracts you. On the other hand, I got no writing done. -_-

I feel like I've been so damn lazy.

The Flu
I got the shot. You know those stories though about how the strain is reaching a point where immunization isn't doing its job as well? I won that lottery.

I came back from a vacation shivering with a three digit fever and was not uncomfortable working while dressed in full layers. Walking was a genuine effort where I felt like I was hauling weights on my ligaments. And, to the surprise of no one: no one noticed. When I called out early and informed everyone involved, I still came back to work getting talked to by my department head who was wondering why I left early without informing anyone. Sigh.

Meanwhile, the second job got back to me and was really supportive about me calling in and said they'd understand if I didn't come in on Wednesday either. I mean, wtf? Why is it so hard for me to get any real consideration at my job?

Anyway, I can't rant long. I already spent half a day writing this. I'll continue later if I get some free time (not likely at this rate).

I also had the flu about two weeks ago. I'm still dealing with the exhaustion side of it.

Ah, I'm sorry. I hope she feels better soon.

Ugh! So sorry to hear you came down with the flu. I've heard the strain going around this year is different than the one we've all been vaccinated for.

The second job sounds more compassionate. Also, asking people to stay home is a good policy. Workplaces are nothing but petri-dishes.

When I worked in an office, I use to fill in on reception. I would literally spray everything with Lysol at the start of every shift.
