The live action Beauty and the Beast remake always annoyed me and I finally realized what it was about it that annoyed me. A lot of the animated film felt like it lent credence to the 1946 Jean Cocteau rendition of the film.
I shouldn't say it's a 1:1 rendition of it, but I keep looking at the live action remake and think back to how it's a remake of an animated film, that lent a lot from a live action film and it annoys me again, especially when you remove most of the whimsy the live action films are wont to do.
But that's enough about my gripe of the day. It's been a week! Wow, how about that, huh? Seven days! Ha ha!
So seriously, I've been awol and a lot of it had to do with allergies.
I planted some plants for planting's sake but it's been raining like crazy. When it hasn't been raining, I've been pelted with the orgy of a million tree pollens. Between the sneezing and the dampness and the mushrooms that I can't even eat, I've been stuck at home cleaning around the house instead or just trying to get my brain to function properly.
It could be worse though; my brother went to the hospital. I don't think things are going to be better for him, at least, if he's still mentally loathing himself the way he's been. Don't get me wrong either though, I've had my share of Tourette's like tics where I verbally lash at myself (product of being damaged goods, hah). I don't think he has an outlet where he can feel good with himself or can progress much past it. Sigh.
Memorial Day was neat, anyway. I visited some friends from Hull whom I promised to bring some stuff. The town, being during Memorial Day, ended up being really crazy with lots of people who looked way too young to represent what I expected to see in Hull--maybe it's a reflection on the economy? They got a propane grill and wanted to treat us to a burger and fries and salad. I brought a marinade bag of galbi, which has apparently been well-taken by many folks and in this case was no exception. As an added bonus, it tastes a LOT better when grilled in a proper grill versus, say, a pan or an electric grill that you're afraid to use to its fullest because of smoke.
Their son, who is a reminder that I've been with Michelle for six years now, seems to have all the makings of a child with ADHD, whom at one point wants one thing before dropping it and going for another. I told Michelle that he reminds me of Clarence, and she gave a smile that told me she could see why. I watched him play with his seasonal neighbors, a family of 5 that apparently just got a Power Wheels pink jeep and that their family were fighting for a chance to play with, to the point where 2 out of 3 of them were grounded and my friend's kid was trying his hardest to sneak food over to his buddy to save him.
Some Catan was played later on, beagles were pet incessantly, and then it was off to a hotel, some H Mart for bread and noodles, and then a trip home while fighting back the headache that comes from bad allergic reactions.
We still did some things. Not a lot, but things. The kitchen is clean. This week's meal will be rice noodles with... things. YAY THINGS. Did some planting before mosquitoes were driving me crazy or rain or I'd get waylaid by my neighbor's dog who loves the pats and I love to give the pats but mosquitoes kept attacking me so I wished the puppy would stop loving the pats because of how ready I was to fall on my face and run from mosquitoes.
Anyway in closing, I got to tell you: out of all the greatest things I could have expected for Memorial Day, none of them topped a kid with a bolt action nerf gun sniping someone in a pink jeep. If that's what's waiting for me when I head back to Hull, then we need to head back more often.
