I got out of a NaNo block: ironically, it was over a side plot of all things; not even a main quest, not even a side quest, but a side plot to the side quest!
I had an idea for an interaction that was going to be part of a quest concept, but I liked the concept so kept it around in my head and decided to use it for a special encounter I wanted to add for variety. When I realized what happened, I ended up getting stuck on this: the special encounter affects another quest as a result so I needed to get this taken care of.
So what happened is I ended up writing, really writing into a cute story that's probably more sweet and sad than I'd expect from a game that's mostly about hacking and slashing. I thought about it and then realized there was a way to resolve it. So I did by finding a way to add a "happy end" that managed to return some levity to the idea. Now that I got that figured out, I can continue with this without worrying about it sucking up the oxygen of the game in the process. Despite that, it's a really long piece.
Also made a rough diagram of the travel points for the party, which I needed because I had no idea of how to visualize how travel was going to be for Chapter 1. Unfortunately, Chapter 1 is going to be potentially very large if the characters choose to be (which is fine since my very reason for this is to create a D&D campaign that can be played several times before you exhaust all the options, like a sandbox).
Speaking of which, I'm also tempted to do a spec script for a podcast I enjoy. Do you think I should try? I think I'll do it anyway since I have a really odd story idea that I think fits within the style of the show, but wanted to be sure. This will take a week or so to write up though, at the least.
Today's the day to cook! I have almost 3 quarts of heavy cream and I'm going to use ALL.THE.EGGS.
I have the materials to make cream of leek (maybe get some more leeks?)
I have the materials for creme brulee (ALL.THE.EGGS.!)
I have the materials for a casserole (though to be fair I make it with anything)
I think we're ready to roll. Casserole will be made tomorrow since that's a quick job, though I can probably handle the simpler stuff earlier. I'm probably bringing the blow torch as I cackle the topping to toastiness. I could also just make the mix and then put it in the oven in on Weds along with a quickly toasted topping of bread crumbs and seeds.
Despite all this, I was pretty good with my weight. My body wanted a serious calorie boost, so we binged at a Chinese buffet for the first time in what feels like a year.
Do you know how it's a sign you've been eating healthy for too long? When you spend most of your time at a junk food buffet eating stir fried vegetables and shrimp. I ate fried things for dessert, but for some reason I just wanted shrimp. I mean, I guess I'm getting my money's worth out of the visit, but it felt like my body refused to jump into large gobs of empty calories and I had to graduate into it.
Last week had our network systems down: no emails for one day, half emails for another day. Day three is still in recovery mode as we are restoring some of the features that were lost in the server crash. Of course, deadlines approach, but I think I just made it: waiting for confirmation. Just another day in the life.

Yes, I FINALLY uploaded photos into Smugmug. I uploaded the things ages ago, but have been really preoccupied either doing projects or practicing professional laziness.
Anyway, here's a bit of what I've seen.

Here's a floofy moth. I may have posted this before, but this moth is too cute for me not to post again.

Corn maze! Yes, we did this as a test to see if we truly have lost enough weight to handle it. The answer was yes; we even cleared the maze in record time, which was surprising because this one really tried our patience.

Michelle's parents' dog being le sulky since she's not allowed on the couch anymore.

And this is where I hang out after my second job shift until Michelle picks me up. It's clean (it better be the way I vacuum in there), it's quiet, and it's a great little spot to get some writing done. Or play games, as you can tell from the screen.
More to come.
