I type this because I'm venting my frustration at getting Steam to run. Three reinstalls of Windows has made my lump of memory in my drives an exercise in re-installation, but Steam was always a reliable keeper; it would find itself stitch a path into my new registries and off I'd go again.

Now it's been stuck in an update limbo.

On the bright side, I've been busy; made enough mac and cheese to potentially shape it into a life-size replica of my head (a la the "Hello" video), enlisted the help of Roy G. Biv in making some rainbow-like hues of jello for my carb fix later in the weeks to come (I say weeks because good god there is too much jello now), made a spicy Korean ricecake dish that cleared up Michelle's sinuses beautifully, and got all the ingredients to make that black ice cream. All that despite the Nor'easter that threatens the outside with hail and snow and whatever comes in between.

The fridge is pretty full now.

I'm pretty full now too. Ugh, I'm a glutton.

I did this without weighing myself in too, double fail.

Also our trip out had me without my camera, triple fail.

I did though prove capable of hauling twenty pounds of stuff from the car to the mailbox with one hand followed by twenty five pounds up home without dropping a thing into the icy wet mess that was my driveway, so there's that.

Come on Steam, start working so I can go hide in the fantasies of the Inner Sphere already.

Funny. My Windows computer was hanging such a bad time running any program lately. I became so frustrated I installed Linux over it. My co-worker told me about Proton, a version of WINE that allows users to play Windows games from the Steam library. After trying it out, I realized how powerful the tool is. I'm able to actually play Lord of the Rings Online in full HD on my laptop without any huge CPU spikes. :D

GIMP uses some interpreted languages that may make the overhead of the software suite so much more intense for office-based specs. I've also found that most office specs are better than consumer specs. It is only recently have I've owned a computer that is considered specs for heavy software engineering (the sort we use at work), and its sheer power has been able to in a way absorb any overhang issues from interpreted languages.

I also have the patience of a rock, so software responding horribly doesn't impede me unless it's completely broken. :-P

Steam does provide Proton as an open source solution, which I've heard rumors is what people use to play World of Warcraft with their own homebrewed version of Proton. How that is accomplished wasn't very clear in the 5 seconds I Googled. But if you're compelled to try it, you can find the software here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton. :^)

Any general questions about Linux I'm happy to answer.
