zesty_pinto: (It stinks)

Although I know there are some of you on my flist that knew this was coming, I still wish it didn't happen. They stated in a press release that they didn't want to get whole ISPs taken down in the process, even though one could also argue that a lack of support from fellow anti-spam parties coupled with bad press may have been the real cause.

Well, whether you supported it or hated it, one thing is for sure: it worked (at least, for me) while it lasted. The fact that a small company from the ground up actually did this much does say a lot about its effectiveness towards spammers, and considering the illegal nature that is connected with these groups, I think it would worth sticking it back to them. If spam does get worse, then I can only see this same option used the same way Lycos "Make love not spam" campaign did before it was shot down, except the one that uses the concept may be governments. I certainly know that China may be one of them with their need to save face from all the spam their country is potentially getting linked to.

In the meantime, I guess I'll have to think about getting a new email account after all.
