We swapped out the Optimum modem for one we bought. Well bought twice actually; the first model was a little too ahead of the curve for Optimum to service it so we had to downgrade. Then we had to buy a router for the modem, decided on tri-band to future proof that at least. Michelle kept getting annoyed at the service breaks we were getting and read about how the modem they provide is really crappy. Also swapped out all the ethernet cords we accumulated: bye bye cat5a, hello cat9. Results? I now get some strong wired signals. Michelle is still getting some problems from her signal.

If we owned this place I honestly would have breached the wall and installed a direct ethernet outlet that way.

I'm starting to outgrow the 35 pound weight and considering something heavier.

Michelle's friends are something else by the way. Case in point was an event that they asked people to join in: it was a Golden Girls drag brunch show in South Street Seaport. Simple enough, right? You overpay to eat some fairly unremarkable food and see a show in NYC. Nothing new here. Well Michelle was the only other person to come along aside from her beau and it sounded like something because man.

First off they gave her no real details of the trip. Literally the day before Michelle was texting her asking what was going on. Her friend and her beau are really content with having a very set schedule so that seemed strange but there you go. They sorted the plans out pretty quickly anyway so not a problem. I wish that was the only one though.

So I said South Street Seaport, right? They came 45 minutes early and basically had nothing to do. Michelle was weirded out by this because it's South Street Seaport! Battery Park is literally right there and the financial district has some old architecture to look at. If you wanted to hoof it a bit you could even explore a bit of Freedom plaza or whatever or just wander around the mall. Instead they decided to stand around there for 45 minutes. Sigh.

Then there was the show itself. It was fine; Michelle said the show was good and she even liked the food (the most surprising thing I heard). They had originally invited someone else and they did a last-minute bail so had an extra meal. Michelle didn't know about this and if she did she probably would have invited me (which I would have been reluctant to go because I went to something with them before and they were very set in their ways but simultaneously attracted to some of the most touristy shit that I felt so irked by it but would have if it meant reducing the annoyance for Michelle).

Then there was gratuity. It was not included in the show. Her friend however did tip the performers generously. They didn't know what to do so Michelle paid for that.

Then they wanted to go home immediately (sigh) so they wanted to get a cab but didn't know how and fidgeted about it, so Michelle showed them a kiosk to get a cab. I should say this happened twice because they didn't want to walk but also were afraid of the subway (!!!)

Then they didn't know how to reach their wallets so Michelle paid. Twice.

Me? I sat around and played Tropico and messed with weights. I felt bad for Michelle and honestly after that she doesn't want to do any more of these things with them and I can't blame them.

The weirdest part of it all? This is the second time they went to this same show. I guess I shouldn't say it wasn't unexpected as the first thing I did with them was see that Aladdin musical which was okay I guess--I respect the performers for their work but it didn't really inspire me and certainly didn't make me want to go more than once like her friend did.

Last night we ate turkey because the MIL had one for Christmas that was never cooked.

Not much more beyond that and the other day I found some Clearly Canadian. Hello, 1995!
