Me Do Work
Replaced the blinds with a new set: Michelle bought three different colors and for some reason the white ones were 35 dollars more and we didn't know why until they came in and we found out that the white ones are slimmer. It's annoying because the white ones are more flush with the window frame, but the others are too big so had to install outside the frame. Michelle tells me that it's still fine because the blind openings are outside the frame so you still see less. Regardless, the bedroom blinds were really old style and now with a modern version the room is much more better lit and achieves the aesthetic we were hoping for. Installed the soundproof panels too and I need more of them but at the moment the reverberation is minimized so it's awesome.
Landscapers worked through today and startled a bunch of spotted lanternflies which hung out on the window. I thought I invited an infestation but it looks more like we have lanternflies in the neighborhood so I'm going to buy a pump water gun and start spraying with soapy water or vinegar the next time I see them.
Me Have Monies
I got my paycheck on Sunday night and holy shit I received adult pay for the first time in my 40 years of existence. I always wondered how folks can afford donating and whatnot and now that I have this mons, I can see how. More importantly, I was able to scrape by my bills and rent just off the part time job alone because I didn't anticipate getting paid, so I have severe windfall. Now with this and the part-time our household income is actually at the levels Obama said we should expect for a middle class household.
I told Michelle I feel like I'm cheating someone and she told me she felt the exact same way when she got her first paycheck from her new job.
Was... was my old job that exploitative?
While I'm suppressing my inner 7 year old to jump on a bed with a pile of bills and order takeout, I am aware that we need a better rainy day fund and that I have the excuse to finally update my computer's insides which I've been putting off for awhile despite having acquired one of the coveted current gen GPUs. I'll assess more future costs that we should look out for while Michelle takes care of her debt situation but in the meantime I have to hope that I keep this job for the advertised three years.
Me Check Outside
Work day is quiet, so I'm going to inspect some trees outside for lanternfly damage. Hopefully my neighbors won't get weird about me doing this.
Edit: followup, no visible signs of lanternfly damage on most of the trees on my street. Wherever these jerks are coming from, it's close but not here. There is a garden group not far from here... perhaps they congregate there?
I ended up meeting my neighbor for the first time. Nice lady. I pre-apologized if we're being noisy and she says she likes it and is a bit noisy herself. I appreciate it tbh; every so often we hear this R&B through the walls that I really like. I'd ask more but she had things to do and I honestly just wanted to get back to working. Celebrating today with a bunch of Taco Bell, which I'm aware is like saying you want to shopping binge at Old Navy, but we don't normally eat out. Just hope I don't create a slippery slope and binge on myself.
