Freed from the shackles of attending a child's second birthday party 6 hours away, our hero(?) has dodged yet another bullet from a tedious event that would hinder his already limited free time.

In honor of saving myself and the car from a weekend obligation, I paid my credit card.

I used my secondary trickle account, which I have put aside for funds that I hope would justify paying for camera gear. Thanks to that and me cashing in on my rewards points, I am now at a three digit number.

It's a high three digits, but it's also the first time I broke past the four digits at a point where it'll stay that way after the finance charges kick in. Safe! By the end of this week, I will lay down the earnings of my second job to feed the ravenous plastic beast and make sure that I will not escape the three digit point for awhile(?).

By the end of this week, I handle all the rent in the house and Michelle gets to put close to four digits into her credit card. Still hoping no big purchases need to be made until the wedding outside of the planned stuff.

The weekend had me motivated to cook and I now have tubs of pad see ew, mapo tofu, and mac and cheese with space and dinosaur shaped pasta because we're that kind of couple! The sad thing about mac and cheese though is that the shapes just don't look great when you do a heavy enough beschemel.

Battletech works fine now. I am hoarding my trove of lostech as the Leopard dropship gets overloaded with equipment that I have no time to attach onto my lances unless I travel from planet to planet barely surviving off what funds I have left. This feels a little too close to real life.

The second job by the way has been giving me problems: I ran out of supplies in a few areas, including paper towels and then cleaning rags. Ever reuse a toilet rag twice? Yeah, I did that. I ended up going three times last week because I had absolutely nothing left. No complaints from the customer, but at the same time I've been trying my hardest to extend what I had left for weeks. Ever read those stories about Japanese soldiers who weren't convinced WWII was over for decades? That was the energy I was getting there until this week when I finally got a goddamn bag of rags.

I found out later on that the problem was my supervisor just ghosted the job. Not surprised since they really extended the hell out of the supervisors for the company, but it also made it goddamn impossible for me to get any supplies without a three week period half of the time. I've been feeling less incentive to stick around because of this incompetence, but then I remember our financial situation and I know I need to keep this going for another year or so. I'm thinking if I can get through another winter then it'll be fine. Which sounds nice to say, but it's still me saying I need to commit for 10 months which is not short. Sigh.

And with that,

Just reading through this great Science article on the extraction of chitin/chitosan from crustaceans. If you've read the hype before, chitin is a natural material considered for a plastic substitute that is mainly looked at because it can degrade in weeks to months since it's so naturally occurring. There's some hard science on the processes they're investigating to make it easier to do.

I remember hearing about this and wondering why they never did anything with it, but this explains a lot about why. As you may tell, I'm very piqued about it.
