Dec. 5th, 2017 03:41 pmJust ran the Kitchenaid last night. Makeshift shabu shabu using a crockpot.
Crockpot wasn't really hot hot, but was hot enough to heat the meat in the end, and that's what mattered. Crockpot is also way too much food for two people so I think there's a lot of waste here. Ugh, not looking forward to cleaning up last night's mess.
Television
I caught up on Stranger Things 2. I liked it, but compared to the first I just didn't feel like it was as well-rounded. Avoiding spoilers, I'll also give my take:
I get why since this is about kids who are growing up who may no longer even be friends as they grow up, and it ends planting these ideas in the end. I feel like the love triangles are sloppy. To be honest, I felt like there's nothing more to really talk about in the next season beyond El and her past. Maybe that's intentional. Aside from that, I was underwhelmed at the end.
Odd fact I have to mention: I know someone who could be Steve's stunt double. I am not kidding, even his mannerisms really show whenever he speaks. The funny thing about that is that unlike Steve, his childhood days was more like the boys rather than as top dog. As season 2 came around and finished though, Steve resembles this guy I know more than ever and that seriously freaked me out.
I also realized Hulu has every season of Garfield and Friends. I watch it as background while I'm busy doing things, and the more I do the more I realize why the CGI Garfield annoys me: compared to this version, Garfield and Friends was very self-conscious and tongue-in-cheek. Garfield is more of a jerk because he is aware of his existence with respect to a TV show and just rolls with it. It was willing to poke fun at things that I think adults cared more about. Like we often talk about shows that did this with reverence like the golden days of WB, but I have to admit that impressed me.
The show is cheesy as hell too, but other things made me wonder how kids could find these things funny, like a joke about a cable tech that won't do anything and knows he can get away with it because they monopolized the service in Jon's neighborhood. Is it sad knowing that twenty years ago that was a throwaway joke even back then and yet it's still pretty much relevant today?
I also started watching this other show in Korean called "Chef and My Fridge" which I have to admit is cheesy and macho as hell but still relatively entertaining here and there. I think the idea of these chefs making a meal out of random crap in someone's fridge in fifteen minutes makes for entertaining television and has already given me a few ideas on some techniques to try out.
Cooking
Tried out the Kitchenaid processor twice. The first time to shred up some cheese for a potato soup, the second to slice up meat for the shabu shabu. Holy hell, it did its job nicely.
Either tonight or tomorrow I need to start doing that onion jam. It won't take long. My only concern is storing them, which will probably be in the cooler for a few weeks. I want to take a trip to Boston to make a donation then to a friend.
Writing
So... I didn't get much writing done for the campaign.
I've been busy. Sigh.
For some reason, my head is filling up ideas for a script I was thinking of in my head for a video game movie, so I started a few lines of that as well. What is wrong with me?
Gifts
Michelle is messing with the Lego Advent calendar I got her (to cover the free shipping for another Lego item I wanted to get her for Christmas). She seemed to be unable to set up a train set at first, but she got the other pieces done easily enough afterwards.
We still haven't gotten anything for her sister yet.
I still have a few things I wanted to pass along to others as well.
I spent more that weekend in NYC than I'd like, but at least I'm still keeping up with payments, so there's that.
Okay, off to to other things.
