Yes, this is the rare post during my non-workday. It's a break and I'm enjoying my time away, although I should be going out taking shots right now, so I'm going to head out in a bit.
I did see Frozen River on a Friday night, where I was surrounded by old people. A LOT of old people, and I think I even sat in front of an old gay couple, where one of them kept sighing for some reason.
Cinema
Frozen River was good. Melissa Leo is a middle-aged woman with a deadbeat husband and we begin with finding out several things: she lives in a trailer home with two kids, and the delivery of the double-wide upgrade is about to come in but she can not pay them because her husband ran off with the payment.
From this beginning, we see a mother who is trying hard to find a way to make everything come together. That is why, when she ends up finding her husband's car taken by the Mohawk outcast Lila, she finds an illicit dealing by smuggling people across the US/Canadian border in Mohawk territory between it, where one can drive these illegals across a frozen river.
The acting is top-notch throughout, from Melissa's range of roles between frustration and love as a struggling single mom, to Charlie McDermott being her older son that wants to fill in for the dad's role, but is still immature and is not allowed to find a job at his age. The acting overall is really good, and among surprises, one of the characters in the film is one of the corrupt cops in Batman Begins, who plays a seedy strip bar owner. It's overall a great film, and although the ending was a bit off for me, I liked it overall.

These shots are done with a teleconverter. They're a bit soft, so I'm going to have to try again with faster exposure.
