Pineapple Express getting a mention for James Franco, but not for Huey Lewis' theme song (yes, that's right: this movie is worth it just to hear Huey Lewis do an 80's-ish theme song).

The Fall got no mention.

Waltz with Bashir, on the other hand, is not considered for a best Animation, but is for best Foreign Film.

Wanted gets mention for sound editing and mixing, but Rocknrolla gets none.

Mark Strong from Body of Lies gets no mention.

Synecdoche GETS NOTHING (this was the biggest surprise since 80% of you on my flist were raving about this non-blockbuster film!).

TDK, despite actually breaking all standards expected out of any blockbuster comic book film, gets nothing outside of a mention of Heath Ledger and not much else (it's true: you have to kill yourself to get one of those stupid awards).

By the way, with all due respect to Heath, I think Aaron Eckhart proved the better supporting actor by showing a very diverse range of roles with Harvey Dent. Heath was still amazing as a dark and manipulative psychopath, but Aaron played a character under pressure who finally snaps and you can feel him morphing his role.

WALL-E gets no mention beyond the usual animation-based awards despite a plotline that is nothing short of ingenius in terms of audience base and point.

My verdict of the awards?

Thumbs down.

That said, Viola Davis better win Best Supporting actress for actually out-performing in a movie with three award-winners.
