Back to Basics

Michelle wanted to get me a new lens and the camera shop had a promo where you could do a trade in for an extra discount. Unfortunately the only thing they wanted between all my old Pentax gear was the Sony A7R2 that I had which they bought for much more than I thought but means I'm back to using my original camera, the 20 year old Pentax K20D I started with.
It's still good. I used it in what may be the coldest day of the year and found that I really liked it paired with this ultrawide that always annoyed me when I used it with the A7R2. It helped me realize three things:
1. My ideal focal length is somewhere within the 20s: not ultra wide, but wide enough Regardless, the 14mm translates to 21 and cropped has a lot of the distortion problems sorted this way.
2. I bought these lenses for this mount for a reason
3. A vertical grip is INCREDIBLY useful even if you're so bundled up you keep worrying about holding it.
The replacement ILC I was going to get though? I didn't make it to get the first batch. Sigh. Next delivery will be... ??? When I do though, I'll finally get a chance to use a 200-600 lens that for now sits in a box looking pretty but I think for the next few weekends while Michelle is training her photography I'll be using a camera half my age.
Anyway I'm donating the K5 that I bought to someone and was having trouble finding lenses to sell, but now that I know they're harder to pawn than I expected, I think I can find it easier to donate something I don't normally use. Unfortunately that also means I'm holding onto more of these lenses or just... selling them. It might help if Pentax came back around. If they did, then maybe the price can go back up.
I've still got a lot of work and it's not helping that NIH is swamped which is unusual because it's close to fucking Christmas but also the staff makeup had a shakeup and I'm probably going to be helping out with that for a bit and it's pushing back against my training sessions as a result.
So yeah, fun times.
I figured out a card idea, but that's also going to take time. All this thinking of my gear, my work, the Christmas stuff, finances; it's freezing my brain, so I just need to align my head a bit.

Date: 2024-12-22 09:20 pm (UTC)In the meantime, I've got the photos that are a result of that too like that two-parter of Rat time I posted earlier in the access feed.
btw Are you able to see those? I tend to keep photos in secured posts but I dunno if you need to log in to see them or whatnot. I only ask since you're like The Rat's number one fan lol
