Oh yeah, when you talked about your relatives slaughtering a whole cow, I figured you must be in a pretty rural area. It reminds me of an article I read not too long ago about the ending of phone lines around here, which I think was best culminated when they described how someone took a drive to their phone box just to prove whenever the connection has gone to hell.
I remember hearing the stories of how LBJ was lauded for bringing electricity to rural areas and I would probably praise the next president who pushes something similar for internet access. Yes, even Trump would get my deference for the one good thing he actually did in my experience of him from the 80s to today.
