Shadowrun 4th Edition
I got so pissed off at MS that I bought the sourcebook for Shadowrun's 4th Edition, and I have to admit that I'm impressed at it.
My problem with the Battletech universe is that it was always one growing piece on another. If you were to relate the current timeline of the Clans now, you would have two or three focal characters per time period and their interactions with characters from a later as well as past time period. It gets really involved to the point where missing out one point will make you wonder where you are again.
SR this time hit the reset button. Most of the famous figures in the original story are dead or disappeared. The technology has been updated to feel futuristic to us in our current concepts, and there's still the strong endless theme of magick in a world that refuses to leave dystopia. I'm surprised at how well this game has kept up and made sure that newbies like myself can handle reading it.
A little more writing was done, but otherwise I built up a warrior on MS. Unlike the previous character, though, leveling up was waaaay easier with this new class and to add insult to injury, there's a lot more goodies I get randomized with as well. After reading up on it, I realized that I need to make more money before I can afford the thief's budget. Considering how cheaply/effectively my character is running, I see this as the much wiser way to go.
