Ya it does seem selfish. It's not on the rest of society to bend because someone had kids. There are plenty of functions kids are more than welcome to join in. They don't need to come to everything.

My family mixed things up. Sometimes we went out to a sit down dinner just adults, other times we made sure kids could be included. We didn't stop going to concerts and comedy clubs when my niece's entered the picture. My brother and SIL would go to most everything without the girls. My Mom and Dad each came from large families. We had something like 20 Aunts & Uncles. Many of those Aunts and Uncles never even met my neices. My brother and SIL refused to bring them to any function where there would be drinking or obnoxious adult behaviour.
