I Babble When I'm on Meds
Jan. 4th, 2018 09:19 am"Are you all right today?"
People seem impressed by my pain threshold. Truth be told, I don't remember most of it.
Yup, I had these two wisdoms all the way in the back that weren't doing anything. In fact, the bottom one was growing sideways which renders it useless and annoying as hell to clean (think of it like cleaning a USB port that someone keeps jamming crushed peanuts into daily).
The weather outside is cold and snowy and miserable enough for it to just be us at that office, so they get to work on us immediately. Along the way over I took the pill of Vallium they prescribed me although they also recommended Motrin and the oral wash before I came in. I wasn't supposed to eat anything either, so lucky me that I don't eat breakfast!
So I decided to undergo anesthesia while this was happening, so one trip to la-la land later and I wake up with gauze in my mouth. Michelle apparently was waiting for a bit (for a one hour operation I felt refreshed enough to think I was out longer). At this point, I think I must have still been under the effects of the medication because I underwent what I can best describe as amnesia on the trip home.
According to Michelle, I was talking all the time. Like, I was super garrulous and didn't even put on a podcast. We were going to go straight home, but I asked about ginger ale (The Bruce Cost stuff that I can't seem to find anywhere in VT), so she takes a detour for me and I'm giving her directions which is odd because I still can't remember anything. I recall her stopping at a grocery store and I'm about to go in with her but she tells me she'll do it for me and she comes back quickly enough (I have no sense of time here, I seriously can not register a thing), and then on the drive back I say things like how we should go get groceries and wanting chicken wings (I even MADE UP A SONG ABOUT CHICKEN WINGS IN THE CAR) and endlessly talking and observing things as we drive home. When we get home, I start asking her about the medication and the ginger ale and she's smiling because she knows I asked her these same things.
Oh, I'm also hiccuping like crazy. I think that's what got me to remember.
For the rest of the day, as the medication wears off and my left side of my face stops falling asleep, I try to guess what the chicken wing song is and tease Michelle by asking her about the ginger ale (she knows my memory's back at this point).
So that gaping hole where my teeth were isn't that bad. I can feel the soreness coming out of them, but it's nothing new to me (poverty makes for a great way to train your pain threshold I guess), but every gauze I have been using has been coming off bloody, so I think I've got awhile to go. Michelle thinks I should go back. Me, I'm okay.
She did tell me that the oral surgeon told her that those teeth were particularly difficult to remove (I'm not surprised either, I considered extracting it myself but the damn things were lodged in tight and at an awkward angle). I also received some more scripts for some more powerful medication if need be (I'm okay though, I haven't even taken the Motrin today though I probably should). Any pain I'm feeling is akin to that pain I felt when the dentist first cleaned my teeth, so I might need to keep this stuff around for the next cleaning.
Oh, I also have a douche for the teeth holes. I don't think I'm eating anything hard and mealy for awhile. I guess this can double as a diet plan (which I have been bugging Michelle for anyway).
Today at the office my backup is out because of her kid and will be out tomorrow. People seemed to be impressed about the tooth thing, but I'm okay, just talking with my teeth clenched (the gauze is providing a gap for air). Hopefully, the bleeding will be done by tonight. In the meantime, I'm guessing it'll be soup for me.

Date: 2018-01-04 07:18 pm (UTC)Michelle told me that being awake while they do it is off-putting, mostly the smells and sounds. While I don't really want this to happen again, if I do, I'm curious about going through it awake just to see what it's like.
Also, I just remembered the first thing I asked when I came to was asking the nurse if I snored. She said a little.
I don't know what they put people under when they're anesthetized, but whatever it was for me certainly was interesting.
